Therapeutic Clinical Massage
What is clinical/therapeutic massage? How can I help?
In simple terms, it’s about finding a remedy for your pain or symptoms. Clinical massage therapy is a type of massage that uses specific techniques and protocols to address specific conditions or injuries. It’s an outcome-focused therapeutic form of massage that can be used to ease a wide range of conditions, such as chronic pain, headaches, tension, and muscle strains, and can be an important part of a comprehensive rehabilitation programme. It is typically performed by trained and licensed massage therapists, who use their knowledge of anatomy, physiology and kinesiology to develop treatment plans for their clients.
My aim is to help you get back to living the fullest life you can without feeling limited by your physical pain or other contributing factors such as lifestyle stressors, hormonal changes, or emotional health.
What to expect
My bodywork sessions involve first exploring the possible sources of your pain. This is where we consider the physical, psychological and social/environmental factors that may be contributing to your pain and symptoms through a detailed consultation. I am here to listen, educate, care and validate your pain. It's not "all in your head".
I then explore therapeutic solutions to your pain and symptoms by employing a variety of remedial massage techniques (soft tissues release, muscle energy techniques, fascial release, trigger point therapy and deep tissue massage).
My sessions go beyond the clinic. I will offer practical solutions in the form of after-care advice, including exercises and self-care tips. We will also discuss any lifestyle changes, nutritional considerations, and home/work furniture adaptations that could enhance your recovery process.

There are many different types of massage and clients are often unsure which type they should book. My sessions are always a fusion of various techniques and modalities tailored to your individual needs and wishes. We establish this during your initial consultation.
It’s important to emphasise, however, that I know my own limits in terms of knowledge and expertise. If I don’t have the solution to your problem, I will know someone in my extensive professional network who does, and I can refer you.
I’m passionate about my work. I believe massage can help us live healthier, happier, more balanced lives. If for no other reason than to simply treat yourself - a good massage is always a good investment.
ABOUT ME

Rhian Heppleston
DRSM DSM DOSM
I am an Edinburgh-based SMTO registered Massage Therapist in Sports & Remedial, Deep Tissue, Pregnancy & Post-natal, On-Site Chair and Swedish massage, and CORE Fascial Release.
Incorporating a range of remedial techniques, which include trigger point therapy and myofascial release, my treatments aim to reduce pain and tension and increase range of motion. Beyond changing physical structures and tissues, I believe it is important to give clients the tools to further their own recovery, to cue them in how to take care of their body and mind by integrating good habits and practices which can aid injury prevention and restore their physical and emotional well-being. A crucial part of healing and recovery is relaxation and rebalancing, which is why all of my treatments will incorporate some elements of a relaxation massage.
I offer sessions at Knotstressed Therapies, my home clinic in Trinity, and in office workspaces. I also provide soft tissue massage services for Sport Scotland Institute of Sport.
On-Site Chair Massage clients include: RBS, SWECO, Edinburgh University, Deutsche Windtechniek, Blyth & Blyth, Scotinform, NHS Lothian, and Software Acumen.

TESTIMONIALS
The best massage therapist I’ve been to! I’ve had a few massages from Rhian over the years and couldn’t recommend her more. I can’t wait to get more during my pregnancy!

I came to Neal's Yard because of ongoing back issues caused by RSI. My therapist, Rhian, was superb. She was welcoming and attentive from the very start; recognising the causes, targeting the problem areas and over a course of remedial massages I'm well on the way to mending. Rhian also tailored a series of simple stretches for me to work in to my schedule, which have helped greatly when the tightness & pain surface over the working day. Can't recommend enough.
Tom
Awesome massages from Rhian. I have regular treatment to help with doing lots of sport and my body getting a bit creaky and it always seems to work.
Keith
Sitting at a desk all day is never good for you and Rhian really does make a difference to our posture and comfort at work, and hence to our productivity. We highly recommend Rhian and the health and well-being benefits she brings to our business.
